In the late evening hours of Sunday, November 6, 2016, Baldwin Park Police Department officers responded to the 13300 block of Ramona Boulevard in Baldwin Park regarding a shooting at a restaurant. The victim, 24 year-old Alberto Calvillo was shot several times and rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Jury found that 24 year-old Omar Perez had gotten into an argument with Calvillo, and shot him to death with a firearm provided to him by his nephew, 21 year-old Eric Perez. They fled the scene in a dark colored sedan, but were quickly located and detained by Baldwin Park Police.
After an extensive investigation by both Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators and Baldwin Park Police, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
On October 22, 2018, both suspects were found guilty of first degree murder. On January 30, 2019, the District Attorney’s Office announced Eric Perez was sentenced to 25 years to life, and Omar Perez was sentenced to 50 years to life.
